UCM Orchestra

UCM Orchestra is unique in that the orchestration of our music is tailored to the numbers and skills of our little players, so that all children, regardless of the instrument they play, or the level of accomplishment they achieve, will be able to participate and enjoy making music together. Instruments in the UCM Orchestra are highly diverse, including both Western and Chinese musical instruments, pop music instruments and homemade instruments created by children themselves.

UCM Orchestra performs regularly each year. All music played by the UCM Orchestra is composed or arranged by the UCM Music Team, led by our Music Director Mr. Ng Cheuk Yin.

The benefits of music instrumental training for children of early years are numerous. In instrumental practice, children develop their fine and gross motor skills and multi-sensory coordination. Through the detection of a beat and rhythm, they acquire perception of sequencing and mathematical sense. Instrumental training is also effective for improving concentration, attentiveness and memory functions. Through repeated exercise in reaching a goal, children also learn to be patient and resilient.

Having had basic instrumental training, children playing in an orchestra learn to listen to each other, identifying the role of self in a group and the need to cooperate. Playing music together is an excellent way to develop communication and social-emotional skills.

For the School Year 2020/2021, UCM Orchestra accepts registration by UCM students only.
